The Hong Yen Chang Center for Chinese Legal Studies Summer Fellowship

The Hong Yen Chang Center for Chinese Legal Studies Summer Fellowship provides support to J.D. students pursuing law-related internships over the summer in China or Taiwan.  The fellowships may be used to support private or public sector work, including internships in law firms.  

How to Apply for the Fellowship

We are currently accepting applications for the summer of 2026. The deadline to apply for the Hong Yen Chang Center for Chinese Legal Studies Fellowship Summer 2026 is February 17, 2026.

If you would like to apply for funding, please email the following to Nick Pozek ([email protected]):

  • a resume
  • transcript
  • a one- to two-page summary of your interest in working in China or Taiwan and the position you expect to pursue. Students do not need to have secured a position in order to apply, but should indicate the positions to which they are currently applying and the number of weeks they expect to work.  Preference will be given to students pursuing positions lasting at least eight weeks
  • whether you have applied for funding from another source and expected income from other sources over the summer.

The Hong Yen Chang Center for Chinese Legal Studies Summer Fellowship is subject to Columbia University and Columbia Law School travel policies and may be limited or restricted.  Each fellowship will provide a stipend of up to $9,500 to cover airfare, living, and other expenses for the summer.
